The Process of Going Solar

Weโ€™ll take care of the details.

The process of getting solar installed can take around three months and involves a lot of different steps. But you donโ€™t have to be involved with very many of them! All youโ€™ll need to do is sign an installation agreement, be home for a site assessment, sign a few documents, and wait for installation day. Weโ€™ll take care of the details and keep you updated with weekly emails throughout the process.

What to Expect

Our installation process starts before we ever step foot on your roof. During your initial consultation, your solar consultant will help you design the best system and determine the right financing for your needs. Hereโ€™s what you can expect from signing your installation agreement to energizing your solar system:

Step 1: Project kickoff

After signing your contract, our whole team leans in to kick off your project. Youโ€™ll be assigned a project manager who will capture crucial information about your project and be your point of contact moving forward. Weโ€™ll also begin the application to secure your state incentive.

Step 2: Site Survey

One of our electricians will come to your home to review your existing electrical system, build an installation plan, and capture engineering measurements for your roof structure. Youโ€™ll also be able to ask our electricians any questions specific to your project.

Step 3: Engineering

Our engineers create detailed drawings for your system that are unique to your particular home. These will show exactly how and where your solar system will attach to your roof and connect with your electrical system. Our structural engineers will review these drawings and certify that your roof can safely handle the weight of the panels.

Step 4: Building Permits

Our team will use a custom package for your specific community so that we can receive permits as quickly as possible. This process can take up to three weeks depending on your location.

Step 5: HOA Approval

We will work directly with your homeownersโ€™ association, if applicable, to obtain approval for the project.

Step 6: Interconnection and Net Metering

When we apply for your building permits, we also apply for interconnection and net metering approval with your utility. This can take up to twelve weeks, but typically much less.

Step 7: Installation

Once we receive all approvals, we are ready to install! We will reach out to schedule your installation on a day that works for you. You can expect the crew to arrive early and quickly begin prep work for the day. Theyโ€™ll prepare the roof and install the mounting rails before securing your panels to the rails. Our electrical team will wire your system and add system monitoring.

The installation typically takes between one and three days depending on the size and complexity of your system.

Step 8: inspections and utility approval

Final approval from your municipality and utility are required before we can turn your system on. This can take up to four weeks.

Step 9: Energize and start saving!

Once weโ€™ve got the go-ahead, weโ€™ll turn on your solar system! Youโ€™ll begin producing energy and see your utility bill decrease right away.

Youโ€™ll be able to monitor your systemโ€™s production using the mySunPower monitoring app. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to our team at any point.
