Selling a Home with a Purchased Solar System

See how ownership, monitoring access, and warranties are transferred when your home is sold.

Last updated: October 5, 2026

If you’re selling your home with solar panels installed by Certasun, it’s important to notify us as soon as you know a sale is coming. Letting us know early helps ensure a smooth transfer of your solar system, warranties, and monitoring access to the new homeowner.

A proper transfer allows the new owner to continue using the system without any interruptions and ensures Certasun can provide ongoing support.

WHY NOTIFYING CERTASUN MATTERS

Regardless of whether your system is purchased or leased, Certasun needs to know when a home is being sold, as specified in our consumer agreement. Notifying us allows us to:

  • Put the new owners into our system for future support
  • Set up system monitoring for the new owner so they receive important system alerts
  • Ensure critical production data required for state incentive program compliance is not lost due to monitoring commucations being disconnected from Wi-Fi for too long.
  • Transfer applicable warranties
  • Confirm they inherent the correct net metering benefits.
  • Stop bothering you with operational emails related to the propety once you move out.

Even if your system is fully paid off, ownership does not automatically transfer in our system without notification. The earlier you let us know, the smoother this process will be.

KEY STEPS FOR SELLING YOUR SOLAR HOME WITH A PURCHASED SOLAR SYSTEM

If you purchased your system and have a buyer, please contact Certasun as soon as possible. We handle the necessary transfer steps for you, as long as you share the new homeowner’s information.

  1. Contact Certasun

Call or email our Customer Success team at (312) 638-9029 or support@certasun.com to let us know that your home is being sold and the expected date of the sale. We can provide you with supporting documentation about your solar system that may be helpful during the home sale process.

  2. PROVIDE THE NEW HOMEOWNER’S INFORMATION

To complete the transfer, we’ll need the homeowner’s full name, their email address, and property address. If you don’t have this information at the time of the sale, please make sure the buyer is given Certasun’s contact information so they can reach out to us directly when they move in to the home.

  3. SYSTEM APPROVAL & MONITORING SETUP

Once your information is added, monitoring access will be set up for you, and you’ll begin receiving important system alerts. Certasun will also be able to provide ongoing support as needed.

Once we receive the required information, Certasun will approve the transfer and set up monitoring access for the new homeowner. Afterwards, the system will be fully connected and ready for use.

The process is quick and easy! Once done, the system will be fully transferred, and the new owner can monitor energy production immediately.
