Are you a Naperville homeowner thinking about going solar? Good news: Naperville solar installations in the Naperville Electric Utility service area get a special solar incentive payment of up to $3,000!
The Naperville solar incentive is in addition to two other incentive programs: (1) Illinois Shines and (2) the federal solar tax credit. Combining these three incentive programs—which each apply to all Naperville solar installations—means that upwards of 60% of the cost of going solar is covered by government incentives.
Naperville solar didn’t always make sense
Until late September 2019, Naperville homeowners didn’t appear to be so lucky. Under the Illinois Shines program, Illinois homeowners receive a cash incentive from the state of Illinois for hosting a new solar photovoltaic system on their rooftop. But, ComEd had tried to prevent customers on municipal utilities (like Naperville’s) from benefitting from this incentive.
Naperville solar is now the best deal in Illinois
On September 25, 2019, however, the Illinois Supreme Court rejected ComEd’s effort to prevent municipal and coop utilities from participating in the Illinois Shines program. Going forward, if you live in Naperville (or St. Charles, Batavia, Geneva, or Winnetka), you have a clear right to participate in and benefit from the Illinois Shines program.
Actually, it turns out that Naperville solar panels are now the best deal in Illinois. That’s because Naperville solar customers qualify for that extra Naperville Electric Utility rebate in addition to the other main incentive programs.
