The Benefits of Solar

Are you an Illinois homeowner curious about going solar?  Wondering how solar might benefit you?  You’ve come to the right place.  This post explains the specific benefits of solar and why going solar now, rather than waiting, is the right idea.

Three main benefits of solar

1. Avoided Cost of Energy

Every unit of energy your solar system produces on your roof is one you don’t have to buy from your utility.

2. Rich Incentives

The federal tax credit and the Illinois Shines cash incentive typically cover about 60% of the cost of going solar.

3. Cleaner Energy

Your solar system will produce clean energy and contribute to a more sustainable future for our planet.

Act now to get the biggest incentives

If you’re curious about solar but would rather wait and seeno worries!  But, your incentives, which are one of the main benefits of solar, will likely be far smaller than today’s, or just non-existent.  Read more about the incentives here.

How so?  Solar policymakers designed the incentives to reward early adopters.  And although today’s incentives are very generous, it won’t stay that way for long.  In fact, solar incentives to Illinois homeowners are designed to decline the more and more people go solar.  The graphs below show a typical customer’s incentives for an average-size system.  Those incentives decline dramatically as more time goes by.

Incentives look good now...

Going solar right now, in 2020, means that incentives will cover on average about 60% of the cost of your system.

...but they're going down.

By 2021, incentives will have declined by nearly $1,400 for the typical customer buying an average-sized system.

By 2022, they'll be gone.

Both Illinois and federal incentives are set to completely phase out by 2022.  Don’t wait until they’re gone!
